U.S. cattle herd up 2% over 2021

Cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in the United States in feedlots of 1,000 head or more totaled 12 million head on May 1.
This inventory is 2% above the May 1, 2021, census. This also represents the highest May 1 national inventory since the series began in 1996.
Iowa’s cattle herd, however, slipped 6% year-over-year, dropping to 590,000 head in feedlots of 1,000 head or more on May 1. The count on May 1, 2021,...
