Cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in the U.S. in feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 11.9 million on Nov. 1., down 1% from a year earlier. 

However, the national herd has grown 3% since the Oct. 1 survey, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said last week.

Placements in feedlots during October totaled 2.25 million head, 2% above 2020. Net placements were 2.19 million head.
