It’s one of the busiest times of year for farmers as they harvest this year’s crop, but one cybersecurity expert is asking growers to take a moment to gauge their cyber safety with a simple stroll around the farm during a break in the action.

“Take your cell phone and walk around your property,” said Andrew Rose, strategic advisor to the food and agriculture supply chain and specialist on agri-terrorism and security.

“Note every one of those Wi-Fi connections that pop up. Do you know where those Wi-Fi connections are? Do you know the password? Has it been changed? Do you know the password for the router?

“There’s a long history of activists and others planting devices on farms that transmit information.” Rose, a foremost pundit on cybersecurity in agriculture, was the guest panelist for an agri-terrorism webinar sponsored by Farm Journal.
