Alarm sounded on tariffs

Two days after imposing tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China, President Donald Trump on March 6 announced a one-month exemption for all products covered under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) in response to serious concerns expressed by Farm Bureau and other agriculture groups about long-term market and trade impacts.
The three countries rank as the top three trading partners for U.S. agriculture.
The tariff delay followed discussions between Trump and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum as well as Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. He praised Sheinbaum for working to curb the flow of undocumented immigrants and illicit drugs into the United States, which was cited as a primary reason for imposing the tariffs.
