The U.S. cattle inventory in feedlots was down 4% compared to April 1, 2022, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) said last week in its monthly Cattle on Feed report. 

The U.S. cattle herd in feedlots with a capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 11.6 million as of April 1.

Placements in feedlots during March totaled 1.99 million head, 1% below 2022. 

Marketings of fed cattle during March in the U.S. was 1.98 million head, also 1% lower than in 2022.
