Meat processors' line speeds increased
USDA moves to finalize rules for pork and poultry plants, allowing more production.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) last week moved to expand a program to allow increased line speeds at pork and poultry processing plants, increasing overall harvest capacity.

Under the new policy, Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) will extend waivers allowing pork and poultry facilities to maintain higher line speeds, ensuring they can meet demand without excessive government in­terference, the USDA said....
