Introduction 

 The USDA released its quarterly estimate of the inventory of all hogs and pigs in the U.S. on March 27, 2025. All estimates are for March 1, 2025 or the December-February quarter unless otherwise noted. Table 1 shows key estimates at the US level.  

 Changes of particular interest are highlighted. US hog statistics have all decreased except for pigs per litter. Total hog inventory slightly decreased by 0.24% to 74.5 million heads. Breeding hog inventory saw a slight decrease of 0.60% year-over-year. Market hog inventory also marginally decreased by 0.21%. As seen below, the US pig crop also dropped by 0.16%....
