Soil moisture is tapped out despite 1.6 inches of rain Aug. 6-7, Kooiker said Aug. 20. “This week has been hot and windy. Things have been going downhill and picking up speed,” he said. “Beans are turning whitish-gray on anything but the better ground.” Corn husks are starking to turn brown, and silage chopping has started, which is about two weeks earlier than normal.
