According to the USDA Cattle on Feed Report, the total number of cattle on feed (for feedlots with capacity greater than 1,000) is up 3% from this time last year. As you can see in the map, Texas leads the way with almost 2.5 million head. Nearly all states either held constant or increased inventory from September 2014, with the exception of Arizona. Iowa has about 620,000 head which is a 7% increase from this time last year.
