2016 Average Cash Rents by County

The 2016 average cropland cash rents by county as reported by USDA/NASS ranged from $150 to $281/acre. Lucas County reported the lowest average at $150, with Davis and Appanoose in southern Iowa at $152 and $158/acre, respectively. Ida County was the high at $281/acre.
The overall Iowa average from 2008 to 2016 peaked in 2014 at $260/acre, but has since fallen back to $235/acre in 2016 as shown above.
Remember that these are averages and when calculating cash rental rates there are endless factors to account for such as the geography of the land, soil type, accessibility of farm, crop prices and expenses.
