In the webinar, “Exploring the Ecology of Water Quality Wetlands in Iowa,” Iowa State University associate professor Adam Janke will highlight the function and performance of nutrient treatment wetlands that have been constructed across Iowa to improve surface water quality in drained agricultural landscapes. He will draw on recent research comparing the ecology of these wetlands with nearby wetlands and discuss how they are contributing to wildlife conservation across the state. Janke will also discuss taking a broader view of water quality improvement wetlands to include the ecology of these sites, including the wildlife that use them.

“Our intent with this event is to help build community through encouraging farmers, landowners, and urban residents to talk about topics important within the community, what keeps them up at night, what challenges they see with conservation practices, and what they want to learn more about,” said Liz Ripley, Iowa Learning Farms conservation and cover crop outreach specialist. “There will be no formal presentations or agenda, just a chance to talk, ask questions, listen and learn while enjoying a beverage and provided food. We are looking forward to learning alongside everyone else who attends.”
