U.S. cattle inventory up 2% in July

Cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in the U.S. totaled 11.5 million head on July 1, according to the monthly cattle on feed report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The inventory was 2% above July 2018. This is the highest July 1 inventory since the series began in 1996.
Placements in feedlots during June totaled 1.76 million head, 2% below 2018.
