A partnership between the Iowa Soybean Association (ISA), Iowa State University (ISU) and the Farm Progress Show has led to the completion of a large-scale, soy-based asphalt project at the Central Iowa Expo grounds near Boone.
The new 42,560-square-foot asphalt base was on display at the Farm Progress Show last week and showcased the versatility of homegrown soybeans and research advancements that now include making roads out of recycled asphalt mixed with soybean oil.
Utilizing soybean checkoff investments in research and development of soy-based technologies, the Varied Industries Tent area was paved with the asphalt mix that contained high-oleic soybean oil.
