Rail slowdown threatens fertilizer supply

Recently announced reductions in rail traffic on lines owned by Union Pacific are threatening to further limit availability of fertilizer to the Corn Belt and drive up costs even higher.
Union Pacific said limits on traffic into Chicago are necessary to allow the rail yards in Chicago to catch up with unloading train cars.
The Chicago hub has been inundated with shipments as distributers continue to recover from COVID lockdowns.
