The Allamakee County Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom coordinator recently visited one of the preschool classes at West Elementary to introduce students to the world of apples and pumpkins. During the lesson, the children explored the basics of these two fall favorites, learning where they come from and how they grow. The coordinator explained the life cycle of each plant, from seed to harvest, while engaging the preschoolers with hands-on activities and fun, interactive discussions.

A key focus of the lesson was helping the students understand both the similarities and differences between apples and pumpkins. The children learned that both are fruits, grown on farms, and come in various sizes and colors. However, they also discovered that apples grow on trees, while pumpkins grow on vines, and that the inside of an apple is quite different from a pumpkin's hollow center. The visit helped bring agriculture to life for the preschoolers, giving them a better understanding of the foods they enjoy every day.
