Optimism is sprouting in farm country

To an outside observer, there doesn’t seem to be many reasons for optimism these days in American agriculture.
Crop and livestock prices are struggling, and there are few signs of quick recovery. World markets are unsettled, and the Trans-Pacific Partnership and other trade deals are going nowhere. Meanwhile, wear is starting to show up on farmers’ financial statements.
