New processing plant will provide local produce year-round

Iowans will soon get a taste of locally grown sweet corn, even in the snowy winter months, now that a new Marshalltown fruit and vegetable processing facility has started production.
Iowa Choice Harvest, a farmer-owned company that is processing and freezing local produce, recently celebrated its official grand opening. The company is currently processing frozen sliced apples for wholesale markets in Iowa, including universities, hospitals and schools.
Customers can also buy Iowa Choice Harvest frozen apples and sweet corn, which was picked and processed in the summer, at Wheatsfield Co-op in Ames starting this winter.
