Iowa cattle placement fell in May

Monthly Cattle on Feed report showed an 18% drop in placements from April to May.

The U.S. beef cattle herd in feedlots with 1,000 head or more totaled 11.6 million head on June 1, according to the latest U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Cattle on Feed report. 

The inventory was slightly below June 1, 2023. Iowa inventory in feedlots with 1,000 head or more remained at 660,000 head, the same number as May 1. Iowa’s herd is up...
