Legislature approves Farm Bureau-backed tax reforms

The Iowa Legislature passed a key Farm Bureau-supported measure during the recently completed 2021 session to shift funding for mental health services from property taxes to the state budget. The historic change, which will occur over the next two years, will result in dollar-for-dollar property tax relief for all Iowans who have seen property taxes more than double in the past 18 years.
During the 2021 session, the Iowa Legislature also passed Farm Bureau-backed bills that will reform state income tax policy, improve the state’s beginning farmer tax credit program, create farm driving privileges for minors and provide additional state investments to support farmers’ efforts to improve water quality in the state.
