Vander Velde was bailing water out of his basement last week after 8.8 inches of rain in less than 24 hours. “Our low fields are under water again,” he said Sept. 20. He harvested some early soybeans before the rain. Moisture was 12 to 14 percent, and yields ranged widely. Other farmers have started on corn. Some corn is sprouting in the husk due to wet conditions.
