Silage choppers were running full bore last week, and yields are reflecting the dry weather that gripped his neighborhood all summer long, Twedt said Sept. 1. Tonnage was about 60 to 80 percent of normal. “We had to pull out of our lighter ground because it was too dry,” he said. He received just 3.5 inches of rain in July and August combined. “Pastures are hurting,” he added. “Most guys are feeding cows supplemental hay or silage.”
