Corn pollinated well, but ears are smaller than normal, Kooiker said Aug. 5. “There’s a lot of ears with 14 rows and some with 16,” he said. “I attribute a lot of that to how dry we were early.” Soybeans are podding, and farmers were putting up third cutting hay, Kooiker added. Rainfall totaled 1.87 inches during the past two weeks, but the soil is still very dry a few inches down. ...
