Snow is melting rapidly, but most fields are still soft on top, Vander Velde said April 26. “Some guys have just started to put fertilizer on the well-drained fields,” he said. “We’re getting some wind, so hopefully that will help dry things out. I think we could start by Monday if it doesn’t rain.” Tile lines are running, but a warm rain would help flush frost out of the soil, he said.
