IOWA’S OLDEST MICROBREWERY CAPTURES IOWA FARM BUREAU ENTREPRENEUR OF THE MONTH AWARD

WEST DES MOINES, IOWA -- March 20, 2008 -- Nestled in the rolling hills of historic Amana, an award-winning microbrewery has been named Farm Bureau’s Renew Rural Iowa Entrepreneur of the Month winner.

Millstream Brewing Company is Iowa’s oldest microbrewery. Their hand-brewed beers boast several national awards. Founded in 1985, Millstream was sold eight years ago to Chris Priebe, Aaron Taubman and Teresa Sly Albert. The new owners epitomize the creative Iowa entrepreneur; always looking for new products to tempt consumers. They have introduced several new products, including the Millstream German Pilsner, a product steeped in rich 14th century European history. “

We continue to look for new ways to reach out to our customers both locally and throughout Iowa, which we call home, and our new consumer base in two other states,” said Priebe.

“But we needed a plan and some business mentoring from an experienced group. We heard about Farm Bureau’s Renew Rural Iowa business mentoring seminar, and we took a chance. We’re glad we did because while we wanted to expand our brewery to meet this new customer demand, we had to have a plan, we had to have financing, we had to have guidance. Renew Rural Iowa seminars were the best way to find the help we needed under one roof,” said Albert.

A series of Renew Rural Iowa Business Development seminars will be held around the state, with the next one to be held May 15 at the Isle of Capri in Waterloo. To register for Farm Bureau’s Business Development Seminar, call 800-254-9670 or to register online, visit www.renewruraliowa.com. Seminar price is $40 for Farm Bureau members or $75 for non-members.
