Iowa Farmers Feeding More Cattle, Report Says

Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the United States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 10.6 million head on Nov. 1, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) said in its report last week. The inventory was slightly above Nov. 1, 2013.
There were 590,000 cattle and calves in Iowa feedlots on Nov. 1, the USDA said. This was unchanged from the Nov. 1, 2013, inventory.
Placements in U.S. feedlots during October totaled 2.36 million, 1 percent below 2013. For the month of October, U.S. placements are the second lowest since the series began in 1996.
