According to the February 2017 USDA Cattle on Feed Report, the inventory of cattle and calves on feed in feedlots with 1,000+ capacity was 10.8 million head, up 1% from February 2016. The 5 leading states for cattle on feed included Texas (2.45 million), Nebraska (2.45 million), Kansas (2.21 million), Colorado (900,000), and Iowa (640,000). Oklahoma saw a 7% increase in cattle on feed compared to February last year, while Kansas and Iowa both saw a 3% increase over this time last year. In Iowa, the February 2017 cattle on feed estimates were up 7% from January to 640,000 head.
