FDA to Phase Out Growth Promoting Antibiotics

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) last week announced a plan to phase out the use of some antibiotics in livestock. The FDA directive said antibiotics could still be used to treat illnesses in food animals when prescribed by a veterinarian, but would be phased out of other uses, including growth enhancement.
