Fresh eggs help improve the health and livelihood of African farmers and their families.
Bruce Dooyema of Center Fresh Eggs in Sioux Center made his first trip to Nampula, Mozambique, Africa, in 2010.
It changed his view of worldwide egg production and the role of agriculture in the community.
“The people there are about giving back and empowering the community and encouraging others to do the same,” says Dooyema. “I came home seeing things differently.”
In the decade since, the Dooyemas and Center Fresh Eggs have partnered with Mozambique poultry producers Peter and Andrew Cunningham to establish three egg and poultry producing companies, along with a system of unique educational opportunities.
Each company has its own specialty, as Dooyema explains. New Horizon raises chickens with its own meat processing facility, on-site feed mill and hatchery.
