Congress overwhelmingly approved legislation last week to implement a new contract for railroad workers, averting a potential strike that would have crippled agricultural shipping along with broader impacts to the U.S. economy.

The Senate approved the legislation 80-15 last Thursday, one day after it passed the U.S. House on a 290-137 vote. All six members of Iowa’s congressional delegation voted in favor of the legislation, which President Joe Biden signed Dec. 2.
