Cold settles in as January temps sink below normal

After the 13th warmest December on record, temperatures in Iowa turned much colder in January. Through Jan. 26, statewide temperatures were averaging 4.6 degrees below normal for the month.
That was a marked change from December, when temperatures averaged nearly 7 degrees warmer than normal across the state. Temperatures reached 75 degrees at several locations to set a new record maximum temperature for December.
